What would you think if you flashed a light into the dark wooded area and saw 8 eyes looking back at you? I froze!

After all I had good reason to be totally afraid.  Two of my cats met their fate with some animal attacking them. One in February 2020. Mama was her name and she had to have her leg amputated and her other leg that was bit on the knee and it never straighten out. Her leg is bowl legged but even so, she runs very fast on three legs. In  December 2021, my Andy's back was broken by an animal and he had to be put down. Both of these cats refused to stay inside the house. After a while I would let them stay outside. I worried but I knew they always stayed near the house. So I was not worried about them running out into the busy road. I was concerned about what animal was in the area. With that knowledge of some wild animal out there,  I now proceeded very slowly toward the eyes and it turned out to my surprise to be my escaped cats from the pole barn!
Apparently I did not place the hooks properly on the eyelet to lock the door. Fortunately the 4 ran into the pole barn to eat. Don't know how long they were out, but they were sure hungry. As I did a headcount, I saw that one cat was missing. His name was Thomas.

Over the five years I had them at the house I rented, I would always call out "Who could be so hungry" and they all would come running. So I called to Thomas. I tried very hard to coax him in with wet food-no luck.  I could not stay any longer for I had to go down to feed the other cats at my old house. These were the cats I could not catch when I had to move. As it goes the two I left behind invited 4 others to have breakfast! I couldn't wait to come back home. I proceeded to chase him around the pole barn. I closed the door for fear the others would escape. Thomas was at the door and wanted to go back in but the door was closed. Round and round we went for a short spell. Finally, at some point I went into the pole barn. I figured by leaving the door open a little,  Thomas may come in on his own. I distracted the inside cats into thinking I was going to feed them. Hurray, Thomas came running in. I  quickly closed the door.

Boy, prayers do get answered. I mean I prayed as I ran round and round trying to have Thomas safely in the pole barn. Quickly I attached the hook and plus tied a wire to the handle to make sure no door opens.
Reflecting on this. Nothing like searching for a cat at 5 a.m. in the morning and feeling guilty while doing it. Oh well, such is life. The good news was that they did stay close to the pole barn. The funny part is if someone saw me running round and round the pole barn, they would probably think I was crazy or something.

  What was cute is annoying

The cat I am writing about is called 'Room Service'. This cat came onto my property several weeks ago. the cat would go under the house and start meowing loudly as though calling for Room Service. As a good servant, I quickly brought out the food for breakfast. It is a pretty white and gray cat with a large grey circle on it's chest. At first I did not know what gender it was. I know now since it is a he! He sprays everything as though-mine, mine and more mine!

His meowing is almost constant once he is on the property.  I don't know if he's in heat as a male cat or just lonely or lost. There are times where I think he can't see to well.  He is under the house where I placed the dish of kibbles and I hear him meow loud as though he wants food. I go there and shake the dish and only then does he come to eat.

I have cats in the pole barn and two cats outside on the property. They both were once in the pole barn and once in the house but wanted only to go outside. There is more to the story and that for another time. Going back to Room Service, the two other cats have accepted him on the property. He lays down near them and does not attempt to mate with them. Well, the two female cats are fixed, so hopefully that sends him a message-don't try buddy!

Then during sometime during the day, room Service wanders off. I wonder am I feeding someone else's cat? Or am I caring for a lonely and hungry cat? Well, it does not matter, I can not be warm inside my house while I know there is a hungry cat outside.

So many cats and so few of us to help!!"

I received an email from a dear friend who is always there to help out. Strangers call her concerning injured cats or in this case, a cat capture during this week where the temperatures dipped extremely low! She wrote this in the email:  "Never a dull moment...Just got a 911, someone who is NOT a cat person (afraid of them) but has a heart has trapped a freezing boy in her garage.  He looks adorable and not sure what to do... So many cats and so few of us to help!!
So few of us to help!! If there ever was an Understatement, this would be the winner! When I moved here back in 2014, I did not know my life would involve rescuing cats.
In the neighbor's yard were two cats laying down and they did not move as I pulled in the driveway with the U-haul truck. I later found out that the previous renter just left these cats when she moved out. The long hair one had clumps of fur falling out and they both looked starved. How could anyone do that thinking the next person will take care of them?
The philosopher Thomas Aquinas believed that God created animals in order to teach human beings how to be merciful. The bible states God charged us with stewardship and dominion over all that he created and loves.

If everyone saw what is really going on in this world, they would understand why this is happening today. If we can not care for the animals in this world, how can we really care about people in this world? It is so easy to be in our man made caves to watch TV and have no real care about what is going on outside.

Here is an idea to ponder: Think about all the people you know that have pets. What type of person are they compared to the people that do not have pets. I am willing to bet that you will see that the people who care for pets, Care For Their Fellow mankind.
